Basketball Recap: Gray's Creek Takes a Loss

Gray's Creek lost against Seventy-First back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gray's Creek Bears lost 56-31 to the Seventy-First Falcons. The matchup marked the Bears' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Gray's Creek lost, don't look at Tatyana Smith. Despite the final result, she posted five points in addition to 12 rebounds and four steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Leah O'Neill, who scored two points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Gray's Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Seventy-First found their leader in sophomore Alani-Skye Wilkerson, who put up seven points along with 13 boards and three steals. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Wilkerson. The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Clark, who earned 11 points.

Gray's Creek's record now sits at 8-7. As for Seventy-First, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Gray's Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 43-37 victory against Douglas Byrd on the 31st. As for Seventy-First, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-42 win against Cape Fear on the 31st.
