Recap: Fossil Ridge SaberCats vs. Loveland Red Wolves
The Fossil Ridge SaberCats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Loveland at home to the tune of 65-21. Given Fossil Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Loveland is ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fossil Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carmen Arkin, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lily Wale, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Loveland saw an underclassman step up: Courtlyn Yaussi scored three points along with five assists and three steals. Emily Rivera was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Fossil Ridge's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Loveland, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fossil Ridge and Prairie View will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Prairie View is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Loveland's road trip will continue as they head out to face Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Horizon is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
