            Football Recap: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Germantown Mavericks        
        
		
        
        
            Starkville faced Germantown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Yellowjackets took  a  45-28 bruising from the Mavericks. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in October of 2024.
 Starkville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Kingston Johnson, who threw for 302 yards and three  TDs, and also rushed for 51 yards.  Chaden Walker was in the mix  too, providing the Yellowjackets with two touchdowns.
 It was another big night for  King White, who threw for 395 yards and four  TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries for Germantown. That's the most  passing yards  White has posted since back in September of 2024.  Keyshaun Coleman did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 160 receiving yards.

With the  defeat, Starkville broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2. As for Germantown, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the  win, which was their fourth straight  at home dating back to last season.
 We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Starkville is set to  square off against  their familiar foe Clinton  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Meanwhile, Germantown will  face off against  rival Oxford  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. That  contest will pit two of the most dominant  signal callers against one another:  White and  Drew Dean.
