Football Recap: South Sumter Starts Season with Victory on the Road + How To Watch

South Sumter had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Haines City Hornets, posting a 55-0 win. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Hornets are ranked 222nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jaylon Pearson and Timothy Gaynor. Pearson rushed for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries while Gaynor rushed for 72 yards and two scores on only five carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Wofford, who rushed for 29 yards and two TDs.

South Sumter's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Nathan Franz with two sacks.

Coming up, South Sumter will welcome Springstead at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Haines City, they will head out on the road to challenge Lake Gibson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
