Softball Recap: Immanuel Comes Up Short

Immanuel fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against McLane on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 4-3. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Amanda Herrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Natalia Delgadillo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Reagan Iriart also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Immanuel and nudges their season record down to 8-3-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for McLane, the win keeps they at an undefeated 6-0-1.

Immanuel and McLane should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Immanuel will take on Washington Union at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 386 places (384 vs. 770). Meanwhile, McLane (ranked 231st) will meet Madera South (ranked 950th) at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
