Basketball Recap: Jah'siah Payne's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Manchester over Rome

New Manchester was the 89-61 winner over Rome when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The New Manchester Jaguar took a 76-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rome Wolves. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Jaguar still had to take the loss.

New Manchester's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jah'Siah Payne, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. Payne's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Hines, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 20 points.

Even though they lost, New Manchester smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive matches.

New Manchester's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Rome, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-7.

New Manchester has already played their next contest, a 65-59 loss against South Paulding on the 15th. As for Rome, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 82-59 defeat against Alexander on the 15th.
