Recap: Springport Spartans vs. Olivet Eagles

The Springport Spartans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-38 win over Olivet. Given Springport's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Olivet is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maddux Locke was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten assists. Locke is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Hope Overweg was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Springport's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Olivet, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springport will challenge Lenawee Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Olivet, they will head out on the road to challenge Eaton Rapids at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Olivet is facing Eaton Rapids at the right time seeing as Eaton Rapids is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
