Basketball Recap: Douglas County West Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Douglas County West extended their winning streak to six on Monday, bumping them up to 6-0. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 65-47 win over the West Point-Beemer Cadets. The Falcon pushed the score to 53-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cadets cut but never quite recovered from.

Trey Olsen had an outrageously good game as he went 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points along with five assists and three steals. That's the most assists he has posted since back in December of 2024. Kayden Foster was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Douglas County West was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

As for West Point-Beemer, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Douglas County West is ranked eighth).

Despite the loss, West Point-Beemer still got an impressive performance from Hunter Swanson, who shot 40% from the field en route to 15 points and six boards. The contest was Swanson's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Schiller, who scored five points and seven rebounds.

Coming up, Douglas County West will take on Gross Catholic in a tournament on Tuesday. The Falcon will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for West Point-Beemer, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fort Calhoun at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
