Softball Recap: Roane County Triumphs

Roane County won the last time they faced Tellico Plains and things went their way on Monday too. The Yellowjackets came out on top against the Bears by a score of 4-1.

Sailor Presley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Presley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Avery Branham, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Roane County's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Tellico Plains, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roane County will challenge Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Yellowjackets 1.1, the Mountaineers 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Tellico Plains, they will welcome Hiwassee Dam at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
