Softball Game Preview: Genoa Area Comets vs. Maumee Panthers

The Genoa Area Comets will challenge the Maumee Panthers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Genoa Area has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Genoa Area lost 17-8 to Rossford on Monday. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mya Colvin and Emersen Bickel stepped up to the plate in a big way. Colvin went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Bickel scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Bickel has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Bronowski, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maumee). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Fostoria a 17-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Reign Hurt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Maumee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Maumee now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Genoa Area, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Genoa Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Maumee in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
