Volleyball Recap: Rincon/University Starts Season with Win Against Ironwood Ridge

Rincon/University had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks 3-2. This was payback for the Rangers, who suffered a 2-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Rincon/University wouldn't go down easily and took Ironwood Ridge into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 16-14.

Antonio Sabelli paced Rincon/University's offense, picking up 18 kills. Sabelli got some help from Liam Burke and his 18 assists. Finally, Leif Terre kept Rincon/University's defense grounded, leading the team with eight blocks.

Rincon/University will welcome Red Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ironwood Ridge, they will host Tucson High Magnet School at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
