Softball Game Preview: Boca Raton Bobcats vs. Olympic Heights Lions

Boca Raton and Olympic Heights are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bobcats will challenge the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Boca Raton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

Boca Raton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against American Heritage, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bobcats blew past the Stallions 16-0 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bobcats considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Emily Falkowitz and Kate Ivanik made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Falkowitz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ivanik pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Falkowitz has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Falkowitz scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Ivanik scored a run while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Falkowitz has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Sofia Garagozzo was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Emma Caverly was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Boca Raton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Heritage only posted an OBP of .000.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Olympic Heights duked it out with Somerset Academy - Canyons on Wednesday. The Lions lost 13-4 to the Cougars. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Boca Raton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Olympic Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.

Boca Raton took their victory against Olympic Heights in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
