Football Recap: Beaumont Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Beaumont waltzed into their game on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 26-20 W against the Cajon Cowboys. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Beaumont found their leader in sophomore Tessa Martinez, who threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of her passes, and also rushed for 63 yards and one TD on only six carries. Francheska Dizon was in the mix too, providing the Cougars with two scores.

One reason for the win was Beaumont's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kiera Houston. She is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as she's now made five or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Janiya Zamora and Ilene Garcia certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Zamora picked up 153 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while Garcia threw for 332 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 74.4% of her passes.

Beaumont's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Cajon, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Beaumont will challenge rival Yucaipa at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cougars 6.6, the Thunderbirds 14) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Cajon is set to square off against their familiar foe Redlands East Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
