Preview: Armwood Hawks vs. Chamberlain Storm
Armwood has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Chamberlain Storm at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Armwood's defense has only allowed 29.3 points per game this season, so Chamberlain's offense will have their work cut out for Chamberlain.
Armwood has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 25 points or more this season. They blew past East Bay 51-14 at home. Given Armwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while East Bay is ranked 441st), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Armwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Na'Chauncia Welch, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five steals. Welch has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Aniyah Moreno was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Chamberlain can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brandon and snuck past 26-23. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Chamberlain has managed all season.
Chamberlain relied on the efforts of Alyssa Dejesus, who scored nine points, and K'mari Johnson, who scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Armwood's record now sits at 6-4. Chamberlain's record is now 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Armwood against Chamberlain in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 99-2 victory. With Armwood ahead 64-2 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
