Softball Game Preview: St. Mary Eagles vs. Elk Rapids Elks

The St. Mary Eagles will face off against the Elk Rapids Elks at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

St. Mary came up short against Traverse City Christian on Monday, falling 16-5. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Elk Rapids waltzed into their game on Monday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Stags.

Coraline Rainey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Fluty, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Elk Rapids pushed their record up to 23-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for St. Mary, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
