Baseball Recap: Yreka Find Success

With a playoff win on the line, Yreka rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They skirted past the Lassen Grizzlies 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Miners: when they faced off against the Grizzlies back in April, they had to take a 15-8 defeat.

The team relied heavily on Nathan Horvath, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Yreka: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-19-1 otherwise. Tony Thomas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Yreka pushed their record up to 8-19-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Lassen, they now have a losing record of 14-15.

Looking ahead, Yreka will square off against Orland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Miners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. Lassen does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
