Basketball Recap: Horizon Takes a Loss

Horizon played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through an 81-46 loss at the hands of the University Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 536th, while the Cougars are ranked 117th).

Mo Kamara was his usual excellent self, going 11 of 19 en route to 28 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for University. That's the most points Kamara has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyle Bailey, who went 5 for 9 to rack up 12 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks.

Horizon dropped their record down to 1-22 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points over those games. As for University, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-7.

Horizon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-55 loss against Lake Buena Vista on the 3rd. As for University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-55 victory against Boone on the 5th.
