Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Hawthorne had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They came out on top against the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave by a score of 54-45. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Blue Wave are ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chasion Wilson, who posted eight points in addition to 15 boards and five assists. Dacarion Debose was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 16 points.

Hawthorne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Hawthorne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for P.K. Yonge, they dropped their record down to 7-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawthorne won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Buchholz at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hawthorne is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.7 points per game this season. As for P.K. Yonge, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something P.K. Yonge surely won't give up without a fight.
