Softball Recap: Oak Park Wins Going Away Against Birmingham

The Oak Park Eagles made easy work of the Birmingham Patriots on Thursday and carried off a 7-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Claire Broberg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over seven innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since March 4th. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Oak Park let Sophia Casella and Kirthi Paramasivan run wild. Casella went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Paramasivan scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three RBI gave Casella a new career-high. Sailor Platt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Oak Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Birmingham only posted a batting average of .050.

The victory made it two in a row for Oak Park and bumps their season record up to 8-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Birmingham, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Park will take on Simi Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Simi Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Oak Park's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Birmingham, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Taft at 3:00 p.m. on April 9.
