Basketball Recap: Eastern Wayne Skates Past Wayne Christian with Ease

While Eastern Wayne didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They claimed a resounding 89-30 victory over the Wayne Christian Eagles. That 59 point margin sets a new team best for the Warriors this season.

Eastern Wayne's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charlie Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zavion Burden, who posted 14 points.

Eastern Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Wayne Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Eastern Wayne will take on Southeast Raleigh in a tournament on Friday. Southeast Raleigh knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Eastern Wayne likes a good challenge. As for Wayne Christian, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Duplin at 4:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
