Baseball Game Preview: Madison Blue Streaks vs. Jefferson Area Falcons

For the second straight game, Madison will face off against Jefferson Area. The Blue Streaks will welcome the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison 3.6, Jefferson Area 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Madison had taken Jefferson Area down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-2. The Blue Streaks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Eddy Gvora put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Gvora wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Yarnell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Evan Smith also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The win (which was Jefferson Area's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Madison, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Madison has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jefferson Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts.
