Basketball Recap: Elba Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Elba can finally bid farewell to their 27-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against the Burwell Longhorns as the Elba Bluejays made off with a 41-21 win. The Bluejays' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Elba was led to victory by Blake Barg and Ethan Lange. Barg almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards, while Lange posted 13 points and six rebounds. Those 13 points gave Barg a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Leach, who earned nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Elba smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Elba's victory ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elba will challenge Newman Grove/St. Edward at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Burwell, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Heartland Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on February 11th.
