Basketball Recap: The Rock Takes a Loss

The Rock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against DME Academy Regional, falling 65-45. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while DME Academy Regional are ranked 73rd).

Despite the loss, The Rock still got an impressive performance from Ruby Patterson, who posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That was a full 37.8% of The Rock's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Ashanti Wilson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

DME Academy Regional was led to victory by Shantell Wilks and Lyric Blair. Wilks dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Blair went 6 for 9 on her way to 13 points and five boards. Blair continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Pavlina Paurova was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The Rock's defeat dropped their record down to 9-21. As for DME Academy Regional, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

The Rock will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Pointe Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Central Pointe Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season. As for DME Academy Regional, they will be playing at home against Southeastern Prep Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
