Baseball Recap: Waverly Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

While Waverly's victory against Mount Michael Benedictine wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won six in a row.

Not much got past Brennan Miller, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Mount Michael Benedictine off the board. Miller has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Waverly's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Thoms, who went 1-for-4 with one triple.

Waverly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Waverly pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waverly will challenge Crete at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, they will face off against Seward at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bluejays will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
