Baseball Recap: Richland Rams vs. Somerset Eagles
Richland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They suffered a rough 14-1 loss at the hands of the Somerset Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Richland of the 18-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.
Richland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Raho, who went 2-for-2 with two doubles.
On Somerset's side, Braeden Flower made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Flower was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Lane Lambert was incredible, going 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Cole Lucas, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Richland's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Somerset, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richland will take on Bellwood-Antis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Richland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Bellwood-Antis' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Somerset, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. Somerset is on a four-game streak of home wins, Bellefonte a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
