MaxPreps Texas Top 25 high school basketball rankings

Tall and talented, Plano West holds the top spot in this week's MaxPreps Texas Top 25 boys basketball rankings.

The Wolves of coach Anthony Morgan boast a front line of 6-foot-10 center Tyler Davis, 6-8 forward Dennis Hogg and 6-8 Mickey Mitchell. Davis and Hogg have signed letters of intent with Texas A&M and Mitchell is headed to Ohio State. Mitchell can play out front, opening a spot on the front line for 6-7 Ryan Smith.

Plano West's star running back Soso Jamabo, a 6-4 senior guard, has rejoined the rotation after being sidelined by injury during the early weeks of the season.

Both of the losses incurred by the 17-2 Wolves were to out-of-state teams.

MaxPreps Texas Top 25 Basketball Rankings

1. Plano West, 17-2
The Wolves improved to 7-0 in a rugged District 6-6A with wins over Allen and Flower Mound. D.J. Hogg and Tyler Davis totaled 41 and 34 points, respectively, in a 2-0 week.

2. Atascocita (Humble), 21-1
Carsen Edwards led the way with 22 points and Brandon Loville had 21 as the Eagles improved to 3-0 in District 16-6A with a 101-63 rout of Oak Ridge (Conroe).

3. DeSoto, 19-3
Edric Dennis and Leon Sneed each scored 11 points in a 55-37 victory over Mansfield for a 2-0 start in District 8-6A.

4. Clear Creek (League City), 19-2
Romelle Watts scored 17 points to help the Wildcats improve to 3-0 in District 24-6A with an 82-71 triumph over Brazoswood (Clute). A.J. Sparks and Jared Evans chipped in with 12 points each.

Five players scored in double figures paced by Antwon Portley's 21 in a 112-49 thrashing of Ennis for a 6-0 mark in District 14-5A. Earlier in the week Portley had 16 points in a 68-35 rout of Legacy (Mansfield).

6. Cedar Hill, 17-1
The Longhorns jumped to a 2-0 start in District 8-6A with a 62-54 road victory over Duncanville. Earlier in the week, Cedar Hill topped Midlothian 85-54 in the league opener.



7. Richardson, 18-3
Ben Nakwaasah broke loose for 30 points as the Eagles improved to 3-0 in District 9-6A with an 80-74 victory over Berkner (Richardson). Brandon Averette chipped in with 19 points.

8. Clear Lake (Houston), 20-1
Bradley George accounted for 19 points and Orion Lewis had 15 in an 80-54 thumping of Clear Brook (Friendswood).

9. Judson (Converse), 21-4
Tony Allen, a 6-3 senior guard, scored 23 points as the Rockets rallied in the fourth quarter for a 49-45 road victory over New Braunfels to improve to 3-0 in District 25-6A.

10. Beaumont Central, 18-2
The Jaguars' Nijal Pearson, a 6-5 junior, had 16 points and six rebounds in a 72-39 rout of Nederland.

11. Brennan (San Antonio), 19-2
Jordan Murphy, a 6-7 senior, poured in 28 points in the Bears' 85-58 triumph over Stevens (San Antonio). Brennan is 3-0 in District 27-6A.

12. Clemens (Schertz), 18-4
Jalon Gates contributed 19 points and Cayne Edwards had 16 in an 87-43 rout of Canyon (New Braunfels) to improve to 2-1 in District 25-6A.

13. Cypress Woods (Cypress), 14-5
The Wildcats defeated Cypress Springs (Cypress) 80-54 behind 23 points from Jared Lilly to improve to 2-0 in District 17-6A.

14. Ozen (Beaumont), 17-2
Richard Maxie scored 15 while Jordan Hunter and Jalen Sneed had 14 each in a 72-41 blowout of Nederland.



15. South Oak Cliff (Dallas), 20-4
Christian Massingburg tallied 19 points as the Golden Bears improved to 3-0 in District 13-5A with a 62-32 thrashing of Seagoville (Dallas).

16. Amarillo, 20-2
The Golden Sandstorm ended the week by taking down Estacado (Lubbock) 62-48 on the road.

The Highlanders stayed perfect on the season with a 65-58 victory over Del Valle (El Paso) and 53-39 over Hanks (El Paso).

18. Andress (El Paso), 18-1
The Eagles put the defensive clamps on Burges (El Paso) in a 40-25 victory in District 1-5A action.

19. Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall), 17-0
Junior guard Tyler Zivney led the way with 18 points in an 84-35 victory over Forney for a 3-0 start in District 12-5A.

20. Liberty (Frisco), 19-1
Carter Brown led a balanced attack with 13 points in a 63-39 victory over Frisco. The Redhawks improved to 6-0 in District 9-5A.



21. Lake Travis (Austin), 18-3
The Cavaliers suffered their first District 14-6A defeat in seven games, falling on the road to Akins (Austin) 67-66.

22. Ellison (Killeen), 17-4
Isiah Jasey, a 6-9 sophomore, had 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 56-40 triumph over Belton.

23. Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City), 17-2
The Knights got 11 points from Bryce Terrell and Tyrik Armstrong in a 69-54 victory over Ball (Galveston) to improve to 3-0 in District 23-5A.

24. Wilson (Dallas), 15-3
Mark Crowe scored 13 points as the Wildcats improved to 3-0 in District 11-5A with a 62-43 triumph over Hillcrest (Dallas).

25. Prestonwood Christian (Plano), 18-5
The Lions placed five scorers in double figures, paced by Chris Stephens' 14 points, in an 83-34 rout of Nolan Catholic (Fort Worth).
