Basketball Game Preview: Ritchie County Rebels vs. Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights

The Ritchie County Rebels will take on the Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ritchie County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.7 points per game this season.

Ritchie County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Philip Barbour by a score of 48-40. The 48-point effort marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Isaac Hodges was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 19 points and 21 boards. He has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 34 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Turner Shriver, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Ritchie County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Wheeling Central Catholic entered their tilt with Ravenswood on Wednesday with eight consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with nine. They took down the Red Devils 64-46. Given the Maroon Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Red Devils are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wheeling Central Catholic's record is now 21-2. As for Ritchie County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Ritchie County was taken down by Wheeling Central Catholic 69-41 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Ritchie County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
