Basketball Recap: Oglethorpe County Comes Up Short

Oglethorpe County extended their losing streak to 16 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-19. They lost 73-50 to the Commerce Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Tigers are ranked 74th).

As for Commerce, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.1 points over those games.

It was another big night for Essien Lockleer, who shot 80% from the field to rack up 19 points and three steals. The matchup was his third in a row with at least 19 points. Bryson Parks was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Coincidentally, Oglethorpe County and Commerce will both be playing Elbert County the next time they take the court. The Tigers will head out to face the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Patriots will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
