Basketball Recap: St. George's Falls Despite Big Games from Carson Crump and Jackson Jones

After flying high against Northpoint Christian last Tuesday, St. George came back down to earth. The St. George's Gryphons took a 67-52 bruising from the Harding Academy Lions on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Gryphons in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.

St. George's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jackson Jones, who posted 16 points, and Carson Crump, who scored 16 points and six boards. Crump also put up a block, which washis first of the season.

Even though they lost, St. George's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Harding Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chazaiah Curry led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Curry has scored at least a third of Harding Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Fred Martin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

St. George's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Harding Academy, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Evangelical Christian the next time they take the court. St. George's will host Evangelical Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Harding Academy will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
