Baseball Game Preview: East Union Urchins vs. Walnut Wildcats

For the second straight game, East Union will face off against Walnut. The Urchins will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. East Union is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

East Union's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Walnut with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Urchins have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Landon Harmon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI.

In other batting news, East Union got a big performance out of Daniel Whitfield, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Whitfield posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Ben Basil also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

East Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

East Union pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Walnut, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
