Football Recap: Cameron Irastorza's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dunwoody over Lumpkin County

Dunwoody lost against Lumpkin County back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wildcats fell 32-24 to the Indians. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 21-13 in the first quarter.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Irastorza, who rushed for 100 yards and one score on only seven carries. Jaden Gabriel also helped out with an impressive 88 receiving yards.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Dunwoody, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Chase Casey, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Nolan Matthews had a dynamite game For Lumpkin County., rushing for 158 yards and four touchdowns, while also picking up 96 receiving yards and one TD. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Matthews a new career-high. Mason Hester was another key player, throwing for 196 yards and one touchdown.

Dunwoody now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Lumpkin County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Dunwoody didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-14 victory against Tri-Cities on the 12th. As for Lumpkin County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 37-35 loss against Greater Atlanta Christian on the 12th.
