2A/1A Rocky River recap Oct. 16, 2012
Forest Hills extended the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Rocky River this week by beating Central Academy, 74-20. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Yellowjackets.
Forest Hills took down the Cougars 74-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. C. J. Carelock ran for 157 yards in the win.
Monroe's dynamic duo of Quashaun Chambers and Jermany Hammonds proved tough for Cuthbertson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Chambers threw for 107 yards and one touchdown and Hammonds had 84 yards receiving. Tre?shun Wynn helped Monroe's passing attack out by catching two balls for 17 yards.
Rasheed Rushing was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 392 yards as Union Academy beat the Cavaliers. Teammate Brandon Martin added to the ground attack by rushing for 23 yards.
On the ground, North Stanly's Antonio Williams has rushed for 1239 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Emmitt Afam. The Cuthbertson star has 39 catches for 660 yards.
Carelock of the John Lowery's team is only 76 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 114 carries Carelock has accumulated 924 yard this year.
Next week's game between Central Academy and Monroe will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Travis Levin tests his arm against Hammonds' defensive ability. Central Academy's Levin has recorded 1136 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, while daniel goings' team's Hammonds has six interceptions to his name.
A big matchup in 2A/1A Rocky River this week will be when the Redhawks take on the Cougars. Monroe is currently in second, while Central Academy is in sixth.
Piedmont made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,501 from 7,124. The advance stemmed from a 19-3 victory over North Stanly last week.
