Softball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Wolfe County's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

While Wolfe County's victory against Breathitt County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolves had just enough and edged out the Bobcats 4-3 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since April 23rd.

Chloy Creech was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Taylor Sword and Raygen Holbrook did most of the damage at the plate: Sword went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Holbrook went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave Sword a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sami Noble, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Wolfe County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.

Wolfe County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Breathitt County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wolfe County will square off against Knott County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Patriots a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. As for Breathitt County, they will challenge Jackson City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
