Volleyball Game Preview: Markesan Hornets vs. Fall River Pirates

The Markesan Hornets will head out to face off against the Fall River Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Markesan got the win against Pardeeville by a conclusive 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.

Markesan never let Pardeeville on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-16, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Fall River narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Pardeeville 3-2.

Fall River wouldn't go down easily and took Pardeeville into a fifth set where they got it done with a ten-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 11-25, 15-5.

Markesan better keep an eye on Dana Dykstra. She was instrumental in Fall River's win, getting eight digs and seven aces. Those seven aces gave Dykstra a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aili Majocka, who had ten digs.

Fall River was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in three consecutive contests.

Markesan's record now sits at 9-18. As for Fall River, their record is now 12-10.

Markesan might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Fall River in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
