After a string of five wins, the Southside Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Fort Payne by a score of 40-38. Southside has not had much luck with Fort Payne recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Southside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madison Shaw. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The match was Shaw's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sarakate Yancey, who scored 5 points along with 5 steals.
Southside's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Fort Payne, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
