Softball Recap: Marion County Wins Going Away Against Brainerd

Marion County won the last time they faced Brainerd and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Warriors have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kylee McGowan was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). McGowan was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Adams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Racheal Anunziato also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Marion County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Marion County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Brainerd, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marion County will venture away from home to challenge Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Brainerd, they will face off against East Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
