Elmira's hitters rose to the challenge against a River Hawks pitching crew that boasted an average of only four  runs allowed on Friday. The Express were the clear victors by  a  12-6 margin over the Owego Free Academy River Hawks. Considering the Express have won five games by more than five  runs this season, Friday's  blowout was nothing new.
 Ava Cornacchio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching seven innings while giving up  three earned  (and three unearned) runs off   eight  hits. Cornacchio was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-4 with two  stolen bases, two  RBI,  and one  run.
 In other batting news,  Addison Taft was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one  home run, two  stolen bases,  and three  RBI. That's the most  hits  she has posted since back in April of 2024.  Madelynn Cavalier also deserves some recognition as  she  launched her first  home run of the season.
 Elmira  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owego Free Academy only posted  an  OBP of  .290.
Elmira's record is now 5-6. As for Owego Free Academy, their loss  ended  a  four-game streak of away wins  and  brought them to 9-2.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elmira will square off against Corning-Painted Post at 4:30  p.m.  on Monday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8  runs per game  this season, so the Express' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Owego Free Academy, they will take on Waverly at 4:30  p.m.  on Monday.
