Softball Recap: Sequoyah Gets the Win

Sequoyah took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Lenoir City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chiefs won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Chiefs: when they faced off against the Panthers last Tuesday, they had to take a 11-5 defeat.

Kaliegh Atchley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Atchley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Shae Alhstrom was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was BriAsya Bowman, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Sequoyah hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

Sequoyah's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Lenoir City, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.

Coming up, Sequoyah will head out to square off against Tellico Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lenoir City, they will welcome Harriman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
