Softball Recap: Montgomery Takes a Loss

Montgomery made up a huge gap compared to their last game against A&M Consolidated, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Kallie Mathews was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kinlyn Mills made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. MaeLeigh Jordan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Montgomery's record now sits at 14-13. As for A&M Consolidated, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery will challenge Franklin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for A&M Consolidated, they will face off against College Station at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
