Hopewell-Loudon is a perfect 8-0 against Lakota since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Chieftains will welcome the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Hopewell-Loudon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Hopewell-Loudon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Margaretta 19-6 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Chieftains, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Araceli Velasquez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-6. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kacie Flechtner was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sidney Brickner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
Hopewell-Loudon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lakota came up short against Gibsonburg on Friday and fell 11-6. The loss continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Golden Bears: they've now lost five in a row.
Emma Jurovcik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Hannah Stahl was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Bomer, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Hopewell-Loudon's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Lakota, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Hopewell-Loudon skirted past Lakota 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Chieftains repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
