Baseball Recap: Nichols Beats Amherst Central for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Nichols entered their tilt with Amherst Central on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Tigers. While the Vikings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Cody Kipler looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Nichols saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drury Schmidt, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Ross Yoshida was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Nichols' victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Amherst Central, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Nichols and Amherst Central will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Vikings will square off against rival St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Amherst Central is set to challenge their familiar foe Hamburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
