Basketball Recap: Mountain Island Charter Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Langtree Charter Academy came into Tuesday's match looking for another win against Mountain Island Charter, but Christan Jones wouldn't allow it. The Mountain Island Charter Raptors had just enough and edged the Langtree Charter Academy Lions out 75-72 thanks in part to Jones, who went 18 of 30 en route to 41 points and three steals. The game was his 20th in a row with at least ten points.

Tavien Julius was another key player, putting up four points in addition to 13 assists and five steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.

Langtree Charter Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Nesbit, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards, and Jerel Brawley, who posted 17 points. Those ten rebounds gave Nesbit a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Gelpke, who put up ten points.

Mountain Island Charter's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-11. As for Langtree Charter Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Mountain Island Charter and Langtree Charter Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Mountain Island Charter will challenge Corvian Community at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 260 places (369 vs. 109). Mountain Island Charter has given up an average of 60.9 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Meanwhile, Langtree Charter Academy (ranked 450th) will meet Pine Lake Prep (ranked 80th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
