Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Shepaug Valley

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Shepaug Valley had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Derby Red Raiders a 5-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The team relied heavily on Sonny Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Shepaug Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.

Shepaug Valley pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Derby, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Looking ahead, Shepaug Valley will square off against Coginchaug Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Derby does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
