            Softball Recap: Conant Cougars vs. Palatine Pirates        
        
		
        
        
            Conant came out on top against Palatine  on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Cougars took their   match against the Pirates   5-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 24, 2023, but that streak is no more.
 Dani Gemmell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in nine consecutive appearances.
 At the plate,  the team  relied heavily on  Charlotte Wolf, who  went 2-for-4 with one  home run and five  RBI. That's the most  hits  she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was  Sophia Gomez, who  went 2-for-4 with two  runs.

Conant's victory was  their third straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 12-7. Those  road  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Palatine, they have  traveled a rocky road recently, having  lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-14-1 record  this season.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Conant will take on Hoffman Estates at 4:45  p.m.  on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on  a  21-game losing streak. As for Palatine, they will face off against Barrington at 4:45  p.m.  on Friday. The Fillies/Broncos will roll in looking for their  ninth straight  victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
