Softball Game Preview: Purchase Line Red Dragons vs. Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs

The Purchase Line Red Dragons will venture away from home to face off against the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Purchase Line 3.8, Claysburg-Kimmel 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Monday, Purchase Line beat Bishop McCort 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Dragons.

Rylee Mahaffey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaitlyn Houser was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Brooklynn Walker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Claysburg-Kimmel rose to the challenge on Monday. They blew past the Wildcats 11-2. The win was just business as usual for the Bulldogs, who after 23 games remain undefeated this season.

Claysburg-Kimmel also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Launa Musselman gave up just two earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKenna Black, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Francona, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Purchase Line's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, their win was their 26th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-0.
