Escambia is 2-8 against Tate since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Escambia Gators will head out on the road to challenge the Tate Aggies at 7:00 p.m. Escambia will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
If Escambia beats Tate with 11 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Escambia was the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over St. Andrew's Episcopal on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
JR Riley looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Christian Stone, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Xavier Taylor was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.
Escambia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Tate sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Crestview on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aggies.
Nathan Ozuna was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Taite Davis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Escambia's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tate, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Escambia might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Tate when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can Escambia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
