Basketball Recap: East Mecklenburg Eagles vs. Weddington Warriors
East Mecklenburg lost against Weddington back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The East Mecklenburg Eagles received a blow as they fell 56-41 to the Weddington Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 400th, while the Warriors are ranked 102nd).
East Mecklenburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mackenna Weisner, who posted 14 points and three steals. Kameyah Browm was another key player, putting up seven points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Weddington found their leader in sophomore Caroline Clark, who put up 11 points and eight steals. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for Clark. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Walker, who had nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for East Mecklenburg and nudges their season record down to 3-11. As for Weddington, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
East Mecklenburg will head out on the road to take on Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Mecklenburg is facing Independence at the right time seeing as Independence is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Weddington, they will host Porter Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Weddington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
