Basketball Recap: Ridge Spring-Monetta Drops Season-High Score on Blackville-Hilda

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridge Spring-Monetta). They blew past the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks 67-42 on Tuesday. The Trojans pushed the score to 53-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Fighting Hawks had little chance of recovering from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridge Spring-Monetta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taylah Leaphart, who went 13 for 16 on her way to 28 points. Those 28 points gave Leaphart a new career-high. Ny'Asia Young was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Ridge Spring-Monetta was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Blackville-Hilda lost, don't look at Breyanna Williams. Despite the final result, she went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points and five steals. Williams is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least five every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Abney, who posted four points.

Ridge Spring-Monetta now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Blackville-Hilda, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2.

Ridge Spring-Monetta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 37-34 loss against Saluda on the 18th. Blackville-Hilda and Barnwell will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
