Softball Recap: Wesson Snags Tenth Victory in Last 12 Games

While Wesson put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Port Gibson. The Cobras blew past the Blue Waves 18-0. The Cobras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Maddie Sanders made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sanders was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Preslee Newman was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Emileigh Woodson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Wesson has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Port Gibson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

Coming up, Wesson will face off against Florence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Port Gibson, they will challenge South Pike at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
