Baseball Recap: Troy Takes a Loss

Troy extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-6 in the process. They came up short against the Prairie Pirates, falling 18-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Trojans have suffered against the Pirates since April 23, 2022.

Makhi Durrett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Troy is 4-1 when Durrett posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Dominic Holden was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Prairie, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.9 runs.

On Prairie's side, Kade Quintal made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Quintal has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Prairie let Jake Quintal and Phil Schwartz run wild. Quintal went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Schwartz went 2-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. With that strong performance, Schwartz is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Carter Shears, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Prairie beat Troy by a score of 21-2 later that day.
